Monday’s Random Thought: Create It January 27, 2014

In the stilled moments I create action. I add noise to the peace, clutter to the lull, movement to the calm.

I talk about wanting time for nothing but to only be, then when that time is gifted to me I squander it on activity and lots of talk in my head.

I know from practice that the wisdom comes in the stillnes. Beauty comes in the quiet moments of getting out of the way and yet I ignore my truth. I fill it up. I run.

Then I make a decision. I decide to create stillness among the action. I am calm in the chaos. Showing up to try again. Seeking the calm. Receiving the gift with an open heart. Even when it is uncomfortable and I am used to escaping the stilled moments, I trust, I wait, I let go. That is when I discover that even in a blink of an eye, the flutter of a wing, the wag of a tail contains so much life giving breath. All the peace I need.

Peace doesn’t come to you after everything is queit. It is not found only when everything is checked off the list. It comes in those small moments that you help create when you get out of the way to see, touch, hear, taste and feel them.

In the chaos I create peace. I add stillness to the activity and calm to the mess. This doesn’t happen by myself from the wave of a magic wand. It comes from connection to the Grace within, around, above, below and through it all.

I take another breath and I say Thank You.

Monday’s Random Thought: Now is the Time to Dream Big January 20, 2014

We have today off from work, school, our regular routine and responsibilities because of one man. Because this one man chose to live his life with great purpose for the greater, highest good of all, casting aside naysayers, risking his life we get a day off.

Speaking out this dream cost him his life. His life was not ended too early in vain for many changes, many miracles have occured because of this one man’s dream.

Now is the time to continue creating this dream, living out the possibility of “justice rolling down like a mighty stream.” There is still so much work today. It seems insurmountable most days. But anything is possible.

Happy Birthday Martin Luther King, Jr. Thank you for showing us the way. Thank you for dreaming big. Thank you for lighting the fire. Thank you for saying YES to possibility.

Monday’s Random Thought: A Peace of Weekend January 13, 2014

My New Year’s Intention is Peace. I intend to embrace being peaceful in all parts of my life. I am making my clear focus for the year a state of being. I don’t have a list of resolutions, I have one word I am making steps to breathe in, to emulate, to be.

On Saturday morning I curled up into my favorite living room chair and did what I do during the week, meditate and pray for twenty or so minutes. If I wanted to have a peaceful weekend with kids sports activities and agendas I needed to start with what I know gives me a peaceful foundation.

After I meditate and pray I like to read something spiritual or uplifting, thought provoking or inspiring. I opened my new book Radical Habits: Simple Practices to Rock Your Reality by Sadee Whip. I closed my eyes and took a breath and asked, What do I need to know in order to be peaceful today? I thumbed the pages, believing I would land in just the right place, with just the right words to guide me. And that I did. Radical habit #11: Be where you really are.

Ah, but of course. In order to be at peace one must be in the moment. That has helped me in the past. I repeated the habit to myself and went on with my day. There were a couple of times when I got scattered, unfocused and was not at peace. It is then that I stopped, took a deep breath and remembered to be where I really was and that brought me to peace. Peace, they tell us in all those famous quotes, has nothing to do with your outside circumstance, it has to do with that quiet place within.

I am grateful for being reminded of these lessons this weeked. I have layed the ground work for the week. I am ready to be where I really am, walking into my intention for the New Year one day, one week, one breath at a time.

Monday’s Random Thought: Thank You January 6, 2014

I have been creating a new habit for a few years now. I say creating because it is a process. I am seeing the results, I am noticing this new habit taking hold in many areas of my life.

Living in gratitude is what I strive toward. I have noticed where the habit is now natural and a part of my day. When I wake up in the moring, before I even open my eyes fully to the daylight, the words Thank You are on my lips and in my heart. This has come from practice, repetition and from a deep desire in my soul to live from a place of gratitude. I also end my day in the same way. Thanking God, acknowledging the blessings and the hardships of my day, aware of the hand of the Universe touching me, guiding me, giving me exactly what I need.

The in between part is where I need more practice. During the day I can get caught up in activity, lost in my head and being thankful goes out the window.

I know what to do. I can create an even deeper rooted habit in the in between part of my day through practice, repetition and a deep desire to live in a place that brings me so much peace.

And for this gift of possibility I say, thank you.
