Monday’s Random Thought: Inspired September 29, 2014

Yesterday in the middle of the afternoon with no plans to accomplish any particular task, I was inspired to work in the yard. I pruned five large plants that had gotten out of hand and mowed the lawn. It felt good to prune back dead stuff and make room for possibility.

I told myself I was inspired by the sunshine.

This morning it was a challenge to drag myself out of bed. Looking outside the dark sky and grey shadows taunted me to go back to bed. I went into the kitchen and made an extra strong pot of coffee.

I told myself I was inspired to both think about going back to bed and to make strong coffee by the foggy morning.
Walking the dog after getting the kiddos off to school I ran into a neighbor who told me he was an hour and a half behind in his morning. “I couldn’t get inspired for the day,” he told me. We shared our thoughts about wanting to crawl back into bed. He drove off into the fog and I turned down a different road with my dog.

Choosing a new walking route I came upon a sign nailed to a telephone poll. Not a lost cat or garage sale poster but something totally different. A young woman was offering her photography services in exchange for money to go back to Africa. An inspired soul. Touched by her travels and the people on her path she wanted to go back and to raise money to do so she is taking pictures. Good pictures, I saw her work on the telephone poll. (www.whohelpedwho.weebly.com)

I doubt weather inspired her dream.

I can tell myself that outside circumstance, sunshine or fog, determines my thoughts and actions, but really, deep down it is the stuff below the surface that feeds me my inspiration. That and random signs on telephone polls.

What nurtures your inspiration? How will you grow it today?

There are basically three ways to connect to another person as well as to ourselves: from our head, from our gut (intuition) and from our heart. When we are willing to shed the layers, cut through the fluff and get to the juicy stuff we find that we have reached out, established connection from our heart. When that vulnerable, real breakthrough has transpired we discover an unexplicable beauty. Miracles are birthed.

Where will you connect from today? Will you witness a miracle?

Do you get those little nudges from a voice deep within you? Do you hear soft whispers of encouragement, advice, support, guidance coming from a place somewhere inside of you?

I believe we all get them. This Divine wisdom, voice of love, resides in all of us, it is a matter of choice whether or not we listen. And a matter of trust and faith if we follow that voice and heed her counsel.

Will you pay attention to your strength, guidance, courage, well of support within? She speaks kindly and ever so softly. But if you miss her words the first time she will appear again. And again. And again. Until you notice her presence.

Monday’s Random Thought: Connection September 8, 2014

Is it important for you to feel connected? Being tethered to something, someone, does it give you peace? Does connection fill you up with an unexplicable love?

I think we spend much of our lives looking for connection. Seeking out people, experiences and things we believe will unite us takes up much of our waking hours, right?

Often I feel connected to something I can’t even see but I feel it in my bones when I look out at the ocean or sit among the trees. There are other times I am with another and I feel like we are miles apart, floating in our own land.

Without connection to something I can’t see, God, Holy Spirit, Divine Mystery or to a person I love, I dry up and drift off into my own land. A lost place with no anchor. In finding that connection, I find myself. Tethered, no longer drifting alone.

Our relationships define us, nurture us and are the source of our pain, joy and reasons we are on this planet.

All of our relationships have value. Our relationship to, with and not excluding: money, spouse, kids, siblings, parents, friends, neighbors, pets, food, fear, love, sex, music, religion, God, books, death, life. As I spit out this list many other examples of relationship jump into my brain and remind me again and again, IT IS ALL OF VALUE.

What relationship will you focus on today? Which relationship in your life needs your attention? Is it the one I believe to be most important and from which all the others feed? YOU. Yes, the relationship you have with you MATTERS so very much and yet it can be the one we run from. It can be hard, confusing, challenging and a pain in the ass.

The thing is no one can tell you how to be in relation with yourself, that is your path to follow, journey to discover. How will you begin it today?
