Monday’s Random Thought: Pick a Name December 8, 2014

A few years ago my family and I started an Advent tradition. On the first Sunday of Advent we draw names out of a hat. The name of the family member we choose is the lucky receiver of some extra kindness that month. (Think Secret Santa, minus presents.)

Even though I drew my husband this year (don’t worry, he never reads this) I am very aware of my kindness and interactions with my kids. Advent is all about preparing your hearts for Christmas and the coming of Christ. Well, my friends God is already here, in you and in me. What would happen if we were more aware, present, attentive and kind to all those whom we meet in a day?

This reminder for me in these weeks of preparation allows me to move with greater love and to realize all the times I take my husband for granted. Instead of this being a Christmas and Advent tradition I am aware of how this can become a way of being. Moving with extra awareness, deliberate kindness and choosing to treat all those in front of me like they have God inside of them.

Who will you pick today?
