I am learning the power, the incredible life giving power and huge gift in not taking it personally. The more I get that it isn’t about me, the more that forgiveness is my best friend.
This weekend my husband was tired. Really tired. We had only a short bit of time together as I was teaching and he was getting the kids to where they needed to be. I thought about letting him know that his reservedness made me feel like it was something I did. But then I remembered when he is tired he is quiet. And when he is quiet, even though I think it, it doesn’t change how he feels about me.
I get there is value in telling others how there actions make us feel, but in this I found more value in letting it go. I found strength in my own process of seeing it for what it was not for what my mind was trying to do. Make it something it wasn’t. I slept on it and released it. I had no need to bring it up and I still don’t. I understood what it feels like to stand in his tired shoes and I remembered he loves me even when he is not talking much. And… I reminded myself that what matters more than anything is the power in self love.
I offer this today because I see that it is a universal thing, this taking it personally. What would happen if you recognized it, then released it? Would it help in your relationship with others? Would it help in your relationship with yourself?
