At the end of my freshman year of high school my family moved. That meant a new school, new home, new friends, a whole new life. That was over thirty years ago. This weekend I had the opportunity to attend the 30 year reunion of the school I only attended for one year. I was nervous, but I went. These were the people I knew since kindergarten. First friends, first crushes, the firsts of many things.
I went with my life long friend and first best friend. As we gathered in her hotel room before heading to our alma mater, I asked, “What is your intention for tonight?” Jill told me, “To listen, to make those I listen to feel good.”
I shared, “My intention is to have five good connections.” I let go of what that looked like and with whom, but held on to the idea of connecting. By the end of the evening that indeed came true. I connected through sharing, listening, laughing, meaningful hugs more than five times.
I drove home smiling, laughing at myself for being nervous. When you acknowledge your feelings and marry them with an intention it all works out. I took the focus off of my nerves and opened up to possibility.
Is there an area in your life, an event coming up where it would serve you to set an intention? Focus on what matters to you, unattached to what that looks like, then let it go and be ready to receive.
Hi, I’m Jenny Gwinn McGlothern, Certified Transformational Master Life Coach, Retreat Leader and Writer. As founder of my retreat business, Mama Needs A Refill, LLC, one way I know I fill my cup is by showing up to a blank page to write. Thank you for stopping by and reading my Random Monday Thoughts, because I will be honest that fills my cup too, knowing others are reading my filled page. Life is too short to blog about anything else unless it touches my heart. Please know I appreciate you joining me on this journey whether you visit every week since I began in 2008 or this is your first blog stop.
